Phoenix (5YO) is a slobby goof who, prior to coming to rescue, lived outdoors at a breeding kennel in North Dakota. He has adjusted well to indoor living, and while he does like some romping outside, he hustles to get back in the house as soon as possible. He loves treats of almost any kind, affection from people he knows, and thrives on routine.
The Perfect Home for Phoenix...
Phoenix's home will require physical barrier fence (observations of him tell us that he just feels more confident with the visual barrier that a fence as there is no question as to boundaries). An invisible, or otherwise electric fence system, is NOT acceptable. He has had some mistreatment in the past and adopters should be aware that he will need a non-confrontational home that allows him to move at his own pace. A calm home with a steady routine is preferred. He does have experience being left home alone for up to 8 hours while crated (54") or confined to an indoor kennel (5'x5'). He is not a dog that will enjoy taking day trips - he prefers to stay home. We are seeking a home for him without children - he startles easily and his confidence levels in situations he is unfamiliar with still vary greatly. He does well with other dogs (including some interactive play with other dogs of similar age), and seems to mostly ignore the cats in his foster home. He will require that his adopters have a confident adult dog, aged 2+, already established in the home. There should not be any puppies in the home.
Applicants for Phoenix will be required to be within distance of an in-person home visit, which is generally within 2 hours of the Minneapolis/St. Paul area.
